    三年前的十月中旬,我有幸代表學校前往美國紐約肯德基參加了「啟發潛能教育」的周年大會。這次旅程獲益良多,不單可以參觀當地多間小學,又可以與校長、老師及同學交流及觀察同學上課的情況。另外,大會亦安排了多場有關教育發展的講座給我們參加,令我們更深入了解美國教育發展的新趨勢。「啟發潛能教育」的理論是深信所有人都是有能力、有價值、有責任的,而且教育是一種協助的活動,有賴彼此的合作,以便幫助學生開啟他們的潛能,讓他們能在愉快的環境下有效地學習。

    啟發潛能教育的基本信念:

    (a)尊重

    (b) 信任

    (c) 樂觀

    (d)關愛

    (e)刻意安排

    (a)至(d)項的意思,相信大家很容易在字面上理解得到,而(e)項是指若要引發學生潛能,我們除了要刻意安排適合的活動及環境給學生,更要透過「政策」、「地方」、「人物」、「課程」及「過程」互相配合,以達成引發學生潛能的目的。

    In the mid-October, 2015, it was my honour to represent my school to go to New York (Long Island) and Kentucky, USA to attend the International Alliance Invitational Education (IAIE) World Conference. From this journey, I really broadened my horizons and learned a lot. While there, I visited some elementary and high schools where I had opportunities to talk to the principals, teachers and students face to face and observed the situations of their lessons. Some meaningful seminars and workshops were also held which were about the new trend of education development. ‘Invitational Education’ (IE) is a theory which believes that all people have their own abilities, values and responsibilities. Hence, education is a kind of medium through which students not only learn by means of activities but also activate their potential under a pleasant environment or atmosphere to learn. The basic elements of IE are about: (a) Respect; (b) Trust; (c) Optimism; (d) Care; (e) Intentionality The meaning of items (a) to (d) are self-explanatory. Item (e) is defined as an intentional act designed to offer something beneficial for consideration. Intentionality enables people to create, maintain, and enhance total environments that consistently and dependably invite the realization of human potential through 5Ps (Policies, Places, People, Programs and Processes).

    今年,我們刻意為老師和學生安排不同的活動,希望他們有着一份像在家一樣的安全感覺去發揮自己的所長。例如:課室門設計比賽,各班班主任與同學們為自己的課室門粉飾一番,每當老師們或同學們經過一些特別設計的課室門外時,也停下腳步,欣賞及討論一番。這個活動不但令學校加了一點色彩,也加了一點士氣。同時間,班呼比賽也開始進行,各班在班主任的領導下,藉着呼喊班呼,提醒自己不輕易放棄,發揮所長,團結一致,奮發向前。在十月十二日(星期五)的德育課,全校師生到禮堂參加班呼比賽,每位同學站於台上表演,發揮渾身解數,忘我地演出,連台下的老師也為他們緊張起來,一邊欣賞,一邊提示,一邊歡呼。這兩個活動都是我們刻意安排,希望學生從中培養對學校的歸屬感。 當天精彩片段: 按這裡

    In this year, all the teachers and I aim to design some activities for our students intentionally. We wish that our students and teachers can extend their potential under a safe environment which is like their second-home. Some of our competitions held at the beginning of the school year were designed with this aim in mind. For instance, ‘Classroom Door Design Competition’ built up solidarity between teachers and students by encouraging them to work together to decorate their classroom door. When some teachers or students walk past, they stop and appreciate their beautiful work. These activities can make the school become more colourful while encouraging high spirits. At the same time, LTY also had another competition called ‘Class Slogan Competition’ which aimed to remind students not to give up easily and to show their talent. More importantly, it taught that students and teachers of the class should be close together to show their solidarity on facing all the obstacles in the coming future. On Friday, 12th October, 2018, all the teachers and students went into the school hall during the Moral and Civic Education lesson to show their class slogan on the stage. Everyone had to stand on the stage and they tried their best to perform. Teachers were very excited and nervous to see the performances as the audience. They were watching and giving hints to the students on the stage simultaneously. These two activities were intentionally arranged in the hope that students can have an increased sense of belonging to the school. A video about this event is as follow: Click

    老師方面,在十月二十日(星期六),我為全校老師舉辦了戲劇教育工作坊,我們由理論到實踐,老師們如同學生一樣,投入地進行我為他們設計的戲劇教育活動,老師們也像學生般淘氣呢!他們更能把剛學到的戲劇教育策略,融入現有的教學內容中。希望我們日後為學生安排的學習活動中,會變得更有趣,更有意義,而且可以多給予學生機會去表達自己的感想。

    About the teachers, a drama teaching workshop was held for all the teachers on Saturday, 20th October, 2018. They all learnt from the theories to application. Teachers sometimes are young at heart like students to join activities devotedly in the lessons. After the workshop, teachers are able to apply all the drama conventions into their teaching materials. They are going to implement them into their teaching so that the teaching content will become more interesting. Students will get involved into all these activities to express themselves freely.

    家長方面,我們特別為小一的家長舉辦了「小一家長座談會」,目的是希望幫助家長為子女準備小學階段的第一次考試。是次座談會,參加人數極之踴躍,家長們十分留意主任們及老師們的講解,更不時舉起手機拍下簡報,場面十分有趣。家校關係對學校的發展十分重要,我期待着十一月份的「與校長茶聚」活動,報名人數達120人呢!我們現在懷着既緊張又興奮的心情準備着活動,詳情在下期校長的話再向大家報告。

    About the parents, a P.1 parent talk was specially arranged on Wednesday, 24th October, 2018. The aim of this talk was to let the P.1 parents know how to help their kids prepare for the first examination in primary school. There were a lot of parents that joined. They were attentive in listening to the explanation from the teachers. At times, they all took up their phones together to take pictures of the PowerPoint. It was such a funny moment. The relationship between parents and school is crucial for the school development. I feel excited and have high expectations for the new function of ‘High Tea with Principal’ on Tuesday, 6th November, 2018. There are about 120 parents who will join this activity. I will tell all of you more clearly about this function in the next message from the Principal.

    本年度學校其中一個發展重點是提升學生對學習英語的興趣,我們在十月三十一日(星期三)舉行了「嘩、嘩、嘩、萬聖節又來了」,英文老師為學生在早會講解萬聖節的由來及相關故事,當天亦有為學生準備了學習活動,希望同學從中學習到一些英文生字新詞及怎樣用英文去表達自己,例如最經典的一句 ‘trick or treat’ ,其意思是:「若不對我好,我便會向您做惡作劇!」雖然文字簡單,但意思及讀音也有相當難度。當天,同學們積極投入活動,希望學生能透過不同的活動,令他們體會到學習英語有趣及簡單的。

    One of the major concerns of this year is to enhance students’ learning interest in English. We are going to have tons of English activities to give to our students to let them learn English in a special way. On Wednesday, 31st October, 2018, the school had a special function called ‘Wow, wow, wow, Halloween is coming’. Teachers along with some students explained what Halloween is and introduced some new vocabulary items and some phrases such as a classic phrase ‘Trick or Treat’. Although it is an easy phrase, it is hard to understand the meaning and the articulation. Other games were prepared for students to play and they played happily. We wish that our students may enjoy learning English  in a simple and funny way this year.

    這天,我和數位老師及同學前往了我們屬校的幼稚園(世界龍岡學校朱瑞蘭中英文幼稚園)表演英語話劇,而我就是當天幼稚園內的活動評判,看見幼稚園可愛的學生在表演着,不禁令我回想25年前入行的初衷,去幫助及教育有需要的小朋友,當中可能會遇上到不少的困難,我會本着校訓「忠、義、仁、勇」的精神,勇往直前,我們有信心前路是光明的。
    We are so happy that our affiliated school called LKWFS Chu Sui Lan Anglo-Chinese Kindergarten invited me to be the adjudicator of the competition on Halloween. Also, some of our students will have a short performance. The kids in the kindergarten enjoyed the show and the games. Seeing their lovely face with their sunshine smiles makes me introspect the reason why I wanted to be a teacher 25 years ago. I believe that students need to learn and education changes peoples’ lives. I know I am going to face a lot of obstacles but I bear in mind our school motto – Loyalty, Righteousness, Benevolence, Courage. With the spirit of these 4 words, we will try our best to walk forward to overcome all the barricades and a bright future will be ready for us.
